NAIOP Detroit recently hosted a “Policy and Pour” program and reception on advocacy as part of its mission to serve as a voice of commercial real estate within Michigan. NAIOP Associate Vice President of State and Local Affairs Toby Burke participated in the program by outlining the importance of being engaged in the legislative process at each level of government in order to impact policy outcomes. After mentioning policy trends occurring in other states, attendees at each table discussed their perspective on the issues and challenges for commercial development in Michigan. The discussion on issues included local permitting reform, state regulatory reform, sustainable energy supply, state competitiveness in attracting and retaining businesses, and others.
