NAIOP’s 2016 Developing Leaders Award recipients were honored for their exemplary achievements, community involvement and leadership in commercial real estate.
The 21 remarkable professionals who received NAIOP’s 2016 Developing Leaders Award come from 15 chapters across North America and share a passion for building dynamic communities in which to work, live and play. They were honored on September 27 in front of more than 1,000 industry colleagues at NAIOP’s Commercial Real Estate Conference 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Meet these high-achieving industry leaders and find out what motivates their success.
Q: What are some of the most rewarding aspects of your job?
A: The tangible nature of real estate development makes every project unique and rewarding. During each phase of a project, I literally witness jobs being created and value being added to the economy.

A: There are so many moving parts to completing deals that it takes contributions from just the right people at just the right time. It is much more art than science, which makes it truly satisfying when it all comes together and we close a deal.
Q: What advice would you offer to other rising leaders in commercial real estate?
A: Be yourself and promote your own brand. Networking is key in our industry, and being consistent and genuine in your approach with other people will get you further in the long run.

A: You must put yourself out there, be bold and build long-term relationships. Establish a strategic network of friends and find mentors who will provide feedback and guidance along the way.
Q: Who has been an inspiring or influential figure in your life?

A: My former boss, Bob Hamilton, really taught me the ins and outs of the industry and was very influential in my becoming the person I am today, both professionally and personally. Bob would push me to think outside the box and get creative in deal making, which has enabled me to look at things very differently and, in turn, develop better solutions for my clients.
