Jennifer LeFurgy, Ph.D., has been named executive director of the NAIOP Research Foundation, effective July 1.

In this role, LeFurgy will set the overall strategic direction for the Foundation, collaborating with the Foundation’s board of trustees and governors to identify trends and select research related to trends and opportunities in commercial real estate. She will oversee financial management of the Foundation's endowment and work closely with the Foundation’s fundraising efforts.

“Jennifer’s extensive knowledge of the commercial real estate industry and experience with spearheading the Foundation’s research will be key toward her success in this role,” said NAIOP President and CEO Marc Selvitelli. “Her relationships with the Foundation’s leadership, combined with her valuable background in research, strengthens the work of the Foundation and enables it to deliver practical research to our 20,000 members across North America.”

Since 2018, LeFurgy has served as vice president for knowledge and research and will continue in that role in addition to her new responsibilities.

LeFurgy has more than two decades of experience in community development. She previously worked for Virginia Tech in Northern Virginia, first serving as the deputy director of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies’ Metropolitan Institute and then as research faculty for the Arlington Innovation Center: Health Research. Previously she was a senior associate at the Urban Land Institute and worked as a pre-development consultant on workforce housing for the California State University. She has served as a voluntary program reviewer for the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund, a U.S. Treasury Department initiative that that invests federal dollars alongside private sector capital in neighborhoods that lack access to traditional sources of financing.

She holds a master’s degree in urban planning from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech’s Planning, Governance and Globalization program.
