As Assistant General Counsel for the Northwestern Mutual, Mike Riopel represents the company (including Northwestern Mutual Real Estate Investments and its subsidiaries) in all aspects of managing its $49 billion international real estate investment portfolio (composed of approximately 80 percent fixed income and 20 percent equity investments), including permanent and construction financing transactions, equity and joint venture development projects, acquisition and disposition of real estate assets, asset management, and leasing transactions.  

Prior to joining the Northwestern Mutual, Mike was in private practice with the national law firm of Husch Blackwell LLP and worked in house with local real estate developer, Wangard Partners Inc.  He received his undergraduate and law degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where he serves as an active voice on the Advisory Board for the Marquette University Center for Real Estate and the Board of Directors for Real Estate Alumni of Marquette (REALM) network. Mike has been actively involved with NAIOP for over 10 years and is a humbled recipient of the 2016 National Developing Leaders award.
