As Assistant General Counsel for the Northwestern Mutual, Mike Riopel represents the company (including Northwestern Mutual Real Estate Investments and its subsidiaries) in all aspects of managing its $60+ billion real estate investment portfolio, including permanent and construction financing transactions, equity and joint venture development projects, acquisition and disposition of real estate assets, asset management, and leasing transactions.
Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual, Mike was in private practice with the national law firm of Husch Blackwell LLP and prior to that he worked in house with local real estate developer, Wangard Partners Inc. Mike received his undergraduate and law degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where he remains committed to serving as an active voice on the Advisory Board for the Marquette University Center for Real Estate, the Board of Directors for Real Estate Alumni of Marquette (REALM) network and the Board of Directors for the Marquette University Business Administration Alumni Association (MUBAA). Mike has been actively involved with NAIOP for over 10 years and led the launch of the NAIOP/Marquette MKE CRE High School Real Estate Immersion Summer Program in Wisconsin for high school students of color in partnership with the Marquette University Center for Real Estate. Mike was recognized as NAIOP Wisconsin’s 2021 “Principal Member of the Year” for this effort. Additionally, he serves on the NAIOP Education Committee at the corporate level and was the humble recipient of the NAIOP Developing Leaders Award in 2016
