Rick Fry is a demographic economist, with expertise in the analysis of established U.S. household and economic data sets. He pursues an empirical research agenda on trends in wealth and economic well-being, living arrangements and housing demand, and generational differences. Fry is a recognized expert on data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Federal Reserve. Reflecting the mission of the Pew Research Center, he identifies important economic and demographic trends and communicates their import for general audiences. At the Pew Research Center, Fry has recently led research investigations on several prominent topics. Fry has documented the nation’s uneven wealth recovery from the Great Recession and co-authored analyses of the racial and ethnic wealth gaps. Fry has also been a leading contributor to understanding the living arrangements, educational attainment and economic characteristics of Millennials. Fry also published the Center’s first analysis of the demographics of the emerging Generation Z.
