Dirk Melton oversees the daily investment and development operations for MarketStreet Enterprises, a privately-held investment firm with diversified holdings in real estate and other commercial industries.
Melton’s priorities include managing the firm’s commercial, residential, retail and mixed-use projects for the firm’s real estate portfolio in downtown Nashville and for select projects in middle Tennessee. His responsibilities cover the entire project development cycle from concept through feasibility, financial underwriting, entitlements, financing, construction and delivery, leasing and sales, stabilization and asset management.
Melton has developed a broad level of expertise in most income-producing commercial asset classes. To date he has participated in the development, acquisition or renovation of more than $1.3 billion of commercial real estate projects including over 1.2 million square feet of office projects, over 1 million square feet of industrial projects, over 300,000 square feet of retail space, over 800 hotel rooms and over 1,800 apartment and condominium units.
Melton is actively involved in the local real estate community, having served on the board of directors for the Nashville chapter of NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, from 2006-2016, where he also served as president in 2015. Melton is currently a member of the advisory board for the Nashville chapter of the Urban Land Institute.
Melton is also an Adjunct Professor of Management at Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management and serves on the board of directors for the Nashville Opera.
Melton holds a master’s degree in Real Estate Development from The Johns Hopkins University and dual undergraduate degrees in Architecture and Environmental Design from Ball State University.
