Pandemic Flu

NAIOP is monitoring the Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1) - Swine Flu - outbreak and how it affects building owners and tenants. NAIOP encourages its members to use the resources below to stay current on news and information that will enable commercial real estate to prepare and respond to this crisis.

Government Resources

  • National Institutes of Health, Enivro-Heath for 2009 H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu) - Central resource of links and documents, including hey facts and information from public health officials; statements from federal agencies; and responses from international, federal and state levels.
  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC) - The CDC is taking aggressive action to respond to the expanding outbreak, with the goal of reducing transmission and illness severity and providing information to assist the public in meeting the emergency's challenges. Daily guidance and responses are posted on the CDC Web site, and a fact sheet is also available.
  • PandemicFlu.gov - A collection of resources from the CDC and Health and Human Services, including the following building and business-related information:
    • Workplace Questions - Employers should be guided in their relationship with their employees not only by federal employment law, but by their own employee handbooks, manuals, and contracts, and by any applicable state or local laws.
    • Workplace Planning - Developed guidelines to assist businesses, industries and other employers in planning for a pandemic outbreak and other comparable catastrophes.
    • State and Local Planning - Includes community strategies, state-by-state information, contacts and checklists.
    • Economic Impact - Overview of the risk to the global economy.
  • World Health Organization (WHO) - Country activities and outbreak news.
