The Daylighting Collaborative

Looking for resources and tools on daylighting? This Web site features design guidelines, research, articles, Web links, project profiles and more on building design using natural daylighting and related techniques to achieve comfort and energy efficiency. A monthly newsletter addressing key questions to ask when considering a new technology or design strategy is also available.

Carbon Free Prosperity 2025

This report addresses the challenges and opportunities for the Northwestern U.S. to become a leading center for clean energy and energy efficiency. The report also outlines benefits of energy strategies, including the potential to create new jobs in solar PV manufacturing, wind power development, green building design services, sustainable bioenergy and smart-grid technologies.

LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance Reference Guiden

This reference guide provides a section overview for each credit category, the number of points per credit, summaries of referenced standards, recommended operational strategies and technologies, potential design synergies and trade-offs and submittal documentation. A free download of the guide's introduction is available.

National Green Building Code Continues to Move Forward

The U.S. Green Building Council continues to work with ASHRAE on Standard 189.1 which is being created specifically for adoption by states, localities and other building code jurisdictions that are ready to require a minimum level of energy performance for all commercial buildings.

DOE Pursues Zero-Net Energy Initiative for Commercial Buildings

The U.S. Department of Energy announced the launch of their Zero-Net Energy program with establishment of the National Laboratory Collaborative on Building Technologies. Both focus on DOE's ongoing efforts to develop buildings that use cutting-edge efficiency technologies and on-site renewable energy (such as solar power and geothermal) generation to offset their energy use from the electricity grid by 2025.

NAIOP Energy Policy

Are you familiar with NAIOP's recently released energy policy statement? The policy follows NAIOP's Policy on Sustainable Development, which was announced in September 2007.

NAIOP Resource Focuses on Green Development Incentives and Mandates

What are jurisdictions across the country doing to encourage or force the development industry to embrace sustainable building practices? The Carrot and the Stick: Green Development Incentives and Mandates a session at NAIOP's 2007 DevelopGREEN conference, discussed the variety of approaches, some more business friendly than others. This panel included Jerry Yudelson, a national expert surveying trends across the country along with officials from municipalities that have implemented relevant green building legislation. Hear how you can take advantage of incentives and navigate the waters of local and state mandates.

To purchase the audio CD of this presentation or any of the other DevelopGREEN sessions, go to the NAIOP DevelopGreen Bookstore. Audio CDs of the individual sessions can be purchased as well as the full set.

Sustainable Development National Forum

Are you actively involved in developing green buildings? Consider joining the new General Forum on this topic.

NAIOP National Forums are special interest groups comprised of industry leaders that provide NAIOP members exclusive networking and experience exchange with peers.

The new Sustainable Development II Forum will be formed the spring of 2009. We will begin making placements starting in January 2009.
