A publication of Wachovia Capital Markets LLC, this report contains case studies highlighting the sustainable-driven efforts of 46 innovative companies in the nation. The case studies illustrate how corporate America is being challenged by, responding to, and profiting from the sustainable revolution. Macrotrends such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions are also discussed and an investment section is provided featuring ETFs and other vehicles for leveraging the sustainable theme.

High Performance Portfolio Framework

This "desk reference" whitepaper details the critical concepts and actions necessary to create a winning energy management plan for your portfolio. A sequential framework of main concepts is provided that leads to operating principles for organizations to follow for each aspect of the real estate cycle. Find out more about the strategic path and main concepts of energy management without getting lost in the spot-fixes in this comprehensive report.

Energy Performance of LEED for New Construction

This study by the New Buildings Institute and funded by the U.S. Green Building Council with support from the EPA analyzes measured energy performance for 121 LEED New Construction buildings. Key findings of the study include: 1) on average, LEED buildings are delivering a 25-30 percent savings over the national average; and 2) the energy performance baseline used by LEED to define a reference benchmark is not as aggressive as anticipated.

NAIOP 2008 Green Development Award Nominations Now Open

NAIOP is seeking nominations for its prestigious Green Development Award, honoring a member-developer for an outstanding project that best utilizes green elements in design, energy usage and development. The award, now in its fourth year, was developed in consultation with the U.S. Green Building Council. For more information, visit the Green Development Award Web page.

Green Building Initiative Proposed Standard Out for Public Comment

GBI's Proposed American National Standard 01-2008P: Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings is out for public comment through June 9, 2008. The proposed standard incorporates new elements developed by the GBI ANSI technical committee and includes: a life cycle assessment credit calculator for common building assemblies; a water consumption calculator; the requirement to achieve a minimum number of points in each of the rating system's seven areas of assessment. Previously, a set number of points was not required.

Greening Trend Accelerates in Los Angeles

Mayor Villaraigosa and the City Council have set targets to reduce carbon emissions by more than 80,000 tons by 2012. Effective November 1, 2008, LEED certification is mandatory for all new commercial buildings greater than 50,000 square feet and multi-family structures greater than 50 units.
