Why Going Green Makes Cents

How do you turn your commercial property landscape green while generating serious cost savings over the long term? This article from the Brickman Group discusses water conservation, recycling and energy efficient landscape design. Information on plant selection and incorporating green practices into your grounds maintenance to reduce labor and material costs is also provided.

Green Metal Building Systems

What advantages do metal buildings have over standard buildings and how do they perform over time? This article from the Metal Building Manufacturers Association offers some factors to consider when looking at sustainable building properties including insulation, roof systems and examples of facilities using metal building technologies.

New and Updated Incentives from DSIRE

Are you familiar with the latest rebate and grant programs on photovoltaics, energy efficiency and solar? The Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Energy (DSIRE) Web site has just released its January and February 2008 additions and updates. On average, about 60 programs are verified or revised monthly through contact with program administrators or other stakeholders throughout the U.S.

Green Building by the Numbers

This fact sheet from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) provides some data on the size and impact of the built environment on energy and consumption, water use, waste and materials use. Industry sectors expected to have sustainable building growth are also provided.

Reducing Your Building's Energy Bill

An initiative of the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, this Web site contains a wealth of information on reaping the bottom-line benefits of energy management as a financial tool. The site provides recommended reading, case studies, tools and resources to create energy efficient buildings. Performance indicators and checklists to identify buildings and systems where you can substantially reduce operating costs and tune up your building are just some of the content areas of this site.

ProLogis Sustainable Warehouse Construction Initiative

As of January 1, 2008, ProLogis is registering all new development -- currently in the design or planning stage as well as future projects -- with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), to be considered for LEED certification. Find out more about why ProLogis initiated this policy in this press release.

NAIOP Sustainable Development Policy

Are you familiar with NAIOP's official policy endorsing sustainable practices for commercial real estate? The policy is the result of a Green Task Force established in March 2007 comprised of 13 NAIOP members from across the country and varying professions that contribute to the development industry.
