Tracking the Sun

The cost of solar is dropping according to a report by the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. The report summarizes trends in the installed cost of grid-connected photovoltaics (PV) systems in the United States from 1998 through 2008. The analysis is based on installed cost data from more than 52,000 residential and non-residential PV systems, representing 71 percent of all grid-connected PV capacity installed in the United States through 2008.

Best Practices for Indoor Air Quality

This collaborative report provides tips and guidance for all aspects of IAQ building design, commissioning and construction, including designing for maintainability. Tools and material for demonstrating the value of IAQ to clients and 40 strategies for achieving eight critical IAQ objectives is also included. Free download.

California's New Green Building Standards Code

CALGREEN, the mandatory code requiring all new buildings in the state to be more energy efficient, takes effect on January 1, 2011. The code requires that every new building constructed in California reduce water consumption by 20 percent, divert 50 percent of construction waste from landfills and install low pollutant-emitting materials.

New York City's Greater Buildings Plan

PlaNYC sets a goal of achieving a 30 percent reduction in the city's annual greenhouse gas emissions below 2005 levels by 2030. The City Council passed legislative components of a six-part plan which addresses energy codes; lighting upgrades and sub-metering; benchmarking; audits and retrofits; green workforce development training; and green building financing.
