REALpac 2015 Energy Reduction Targets The Real Property Association of Canada (REALpac) is adopting an energy consumption target for office buildings of 20 equivalent kilowatt hours of total energy use per square foot of rentable area per year by 2015. The target is intended as an essential first step in demonstrating substantial, sector-wide emissions reductions and operating cost savings, while taking full advantage of incentives and getting in front of potential regulations. Building Retrofit Tax Strategies Abigail Johnson, Abacus Property Solutions, discusses the two most significant federal tax vehicles available to commercial owners and investors. Suggestions on how to incorporate the vehicles into a retrofit strategy and recommendations for maximizing tax deductions and/or renewable credits is also provided.
