In Search of Performance

The New Building Institute (NBI) has compiled 91 projects which have demonstrated or predicted performance that is 30 percent above the Commercial Building Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS) average for their building use type. Projects will continue to be added and anyone may enter information about a project, but you must first register and check that your project isn't already in the database.

Emerging Trends in the U.S. Solar Market

This whitepaper by GTM Research takes a forward look at three trends that have the potential to transform the U.S. market if adopted on a broader scale: feed-in tariffs; utility-scale photovoltaic systems; and solar thermal/biomass cogeneration for baseload power.

A New Path to Energy-Efficient Commercial Building Projects

As part of an ongoing effort by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to reduce energy use in new and existing commercial buildings, owners, operators and technical experts can join DOE's Commercial Building Partnerships (CBP) initiative. Owners and operators can submit planned new or retrofit commercial building projects that will achieve significant energy savings by responding to the Call for Projects.

Green Building Institute Adopts Consensus Standard

The new standard takes a holistic approach to green building with seven areas of assessment: Project Management, Site, Water, Energy, Emissions, Indoor Environment and Resources. The energy section includes minimum achievement levels and introduces carbon equivalency measures that are used in combination with energy performance goals. Other areas of innovation are the addition of a water consumption calculator, a materials/resources section that fully incorporates Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and an emphasis on building integrity issues.

CB Richard Ellis Launches Solar Energy Group

CBRE is partnering with Smart Energy Capital, a solar finance, development and advisory firm, to expand their solar energy service capabilities. Power purchase agreements, roof leases, advisory services, project development and management services are in the platform as well as solar project investment opportunities.
