Plugging in For Electric Cars

With the coming of plug-in electric vehicles, parking facility owners are wondering what they should do regarding electric vehicle recharging. Electric car models are already being sold in limited quantities and a half a dozen more are expected to be sold in the United States in the next year. For more about infrastructure requirements for plug-ins, read this article submitted by Mary S. Smith, senior vice president, Walker Parking Consultants.

Control Parking Lot Lighting To Save Money, Electricity

A new, controlled lighting system called The Green Spider launched recently, and claims to "reduce lighting energy consumption and costs by about 30 percent, extend the life of existing lighting, and pay for itself in as little as four months." Fixtures operate normally during heavy daylight and evening traffic hours. But at a predetermined time, the system turns off up to three individual 1,000-watt fixtures and leaves one remaining fixture illuminated for both local lighting codes and security. At dawn, the system resets itself.

Recycling After a Building Disaster

As a disaster restoration company, ServiceMaster by AmeriSteam often confronts a variety of hard-to-recycle debris coming out of a disaster situation, such as drywall, ceiling tiles, plastic, furniture, carpet and metals. Rather than sending them to the landfill, the company has an extensive program for recycle them. Learn more in this article by NAIOP member Brooke Cowdin.

Lighting the Path to Energy Efficiency: Changes Proposed for Standard 90.1
