Randy I. Anderson, Ph.D., is the inaugural Howard Phillips Eminent Scholar Chair in Real Estate and directs the School's research and education institute housed in the College of Business Administration. Anderson has been active in the real estate business since 1991 as a researcher, owner, investor, and strategist. Recently, Dr. Anderson was awarded the designation of Counselor of Real Estate (CRE) and named a Homer Hoyt Institute Fellow and a NAIOP Research Foundation Distinguished Fellow.

Formerly, he served as president of CNL Real Estate Advisors in Orlando where he was responsible for overseeing CNL's non-REIT real estate transactions including research, origination, acquisition, finance and management. Under his leadership, CNL Real Estate Advisors was one of the most successful start-ups in CNL's history and managed nearly $700 million of real estate deals in its first year of operation.

Prior to CNL, Dr. Anderson held Chairs at Baruch College and Florida International University and senior executive positions at Prudential Real Estate Investors and Marcus and Millichap. Dr. Anderson has published more than 60 articles, many in premier real estate journals. He also serves as a co-editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management and has been featured as a distinguished lecturer at Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, the American Real Estate Society awarded him with the Kinnard Young Scholar Award, which recognizes an outstanding young real estate scholar under the age of 40. Anderson holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Alabama.


Dr. Susanne Ethridge Cannon

Susanne Ethridge Cannon is Chairman of the Department of Real Estate and the Douglas and Cynthia Crocker Endowed Director of the Real Estate Center at DePaul University, where she teaches undergraduate and MBA real estate investment classes. She has authored papers on topics as varied as corporate governance, real estate feasibility, eminent domain, and housing markets. She has also worked extensively in urban land use issues, acting as an expert witness on zoning and down zoning cases, and providing analysis of residential and office markets for public and private sector clients.

As the founding director of the Real Estate Center, and now Chairman of the Department of Real Estate, she has built the academic program from its 2002 inception to its current enrollment of 150 MBA and MSRE students, and 80 undergraduate majors in only seven years. The Center is supported by sponsoring firms, associations and foundations, and it has achieved over $10 million in endowment. Additionally, in 2007 it was awarded a $3.5 million grant from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation as part of a major effort to preserve affordable rental housing.

Dr. Cannon has a B.A. in Economics and a Ph.D. in Finance, both from the University of Texas. Her professional and community experience includes roles as director of real estate for the Mexican American Unity Council, a San Antonio community development corporation; Chairman of the Austin, Texas, Urban Renewal Board; and Committee Clerk for the Texas Senate Committee on Financial Institutions. Among her professional memberships, she has served on the board and as president of Ely Chapter, Lambda Alpha International. She is a Weimer Fellow of the Homer Hoyt Advanced Studies Institute, a Fellow of the Real Estate Research Institute, Chairman of the Education Committee of the American Real Estate Society, and she is active in the Urban Land Institute, Pension Real Estate Association and Counselors of Real Estate.


Dr. James R. DeLisle

Dr. James R. DeLisle is the Runstad Professor of Real Estate and the Director of the Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies at the University of Washington. Prior to his current assignment, he was an Executive Vice-President and head of Strategic Planning for Lend Lease Real Estate Investments, a global company and the successor firm to Equitable Real Estate where he founded the Investment Research Department and directed it for nine years. Prior to that, he was a Vice-President of Investment Research at Prudential Real Estate Investors. Before moving into the industry side of the business, he held academic positions for over 12 years. He is an active speaker at industry conferences and has been an active member and leader in a number of industry trade associations and is a past-president of the American Real Estate Society (ARES). He has published widely in academic and professional journals. Dr. DeLisle received his B.B.A. in real estate and M.S. in marketing research from the University of Wisconsin. He received his Ph.D. in real estate and urban land economics from the University of Wisconsin under his mentor, the late Dr. James A. Graaskamp, one of the leading academic proponents of applied real estate research.


Dr. Urs P. Gauchat

Urs P. Gauchat is an architect, innovator and instigator. As a professional and academic he has a long standing interest and expertise in the field of housing and community building worldwide.

He is dean of the College of Architecture and Design at New Jersey Institute of Technology and a practicing architect. He formerly taught at the Harvard GSD and was president of the Boston Architectural Center.

The College of Architecture and Design at NJIT is one of the largest in the country. He transformed the School into an internationally recognized leader in the area of digital design and community development. His focus is on results not just theory. The School in the past few years has been involved in over 65 community projects. Gauchat is particularly interested in creating a bridge between the considerable resources of a State university and the needs of communities.

He serves as an advisor to academia, governments, communities and industry.


Dr. John Glascock

Dr. John Glascock is a West Shell Professor of Real Estate Finance and Director of the Real Estate Center at the University of Cincinnati. He is also a visiting scholar with the European Business School and teaches in their graduate real estate program. The institute concentrates on three key activities: academic research, executive education and professional outreach. The research themes cover risk management of real estate decision making, housing policy and REITs. Dr. Glascock's research concentrates on REITs, real estate performance and housing policy. He has also seminars and advised governments in Korea, Dubai, Taiwan and Thailand on REITs.


Dr. G. Donald Jud

Dr. Jud is Professor Emeritus of Finance in the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and principal of Jud & Associates, which is also located in Greensboro, N.C. In addition to previous experience teaching economics, finance and real estate, Dr. Jud is the author of more than 80 academic articles and three books. Presently, Dr. Jud is a research fellow of the Homer Hoyt Advanced Studies Institute, where he is an emeritus member of the Weimer School Faculty and the Board of Directors of the Institute. In 2003, he was honored as a Burns Fellow at the University of Denver. Dr. Jud received his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and MBA and BA degrees from the University of Texas.

Dr. Jud also serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics and the Journal of Real Estate Literature and is a member of the Appraisal Journal’s academic review panel. He is a past editor of the Journal of Real Estate Research and continues to serve as a member of its editorial board. Added leadership experiences for Dr. Jud include a prior term as president of the American Real Estate Society (ARES) and former ARES Director of Publications.

Richard “Ryc” Nicholas Loope is the Director of Real Estate Programs and Professor in the College of Design at Arizona State University. In addition to previous academic teaching experience, he was the president and principal architect of Taliesin Architects, as well as CEO and president for The Durrant Group. He completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School, received his Master of Environmental Design degree from Yale University and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Maryland. Presently, Professor Loope is the President and CEO of HL Design Build LLC and a founding member and principal architect in PDI global design consortium.

Professor Loope has authored/co-authored 30 articles, papers and book excerpts on professional practice, energy use strategies and architectural education, and serves on the Board of Directors for numerous organizations such as Arizona Habitat for Humanity, ASU Stardust Center, Council for Design Excellence and Solar Energy Research Foundation.


Dr. Norman G. Miller

Norm Miller is a Professor and the Director of the MSRE Program at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego. Previously he was at the University of Cincinnati, and spent time as a Visiting Faculty at Depaul and the University of Hawaii. He started his academic career at the University of Georgia, and received his Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in Finance and Real Estate with a minor in City and Regional Planning. He is active on the editorial board of several national/international journals and is the immediate past President of ARES, the American Real Estate Society.

Dr. Miller has numerous academic articles, books and articles in trade market publications on housing, brokerage, mortgage risk, valuation and many other topics. His most recent book Commercial Real Estate Analysis and Investment with Geltner, Eicholtz and Clayton is in its second edition. Dr. Miller has lectured globally and domestically from Singapore and Thailand to Russia. He became one of the first NAIOP Distinguished Fellows in 2002 as well as one of the primary instructors for NAIOP educational programs. In addition, he is an Educational Consultant for CCIM. His research covers housing risk analysis, price forecasting, AVMs and mortgage risk analysis. As a Homer Hoyt Land Use Institute Faculty and Board member, he is involved with premier academic and industry thought leaders in a think tank setting for real estate issues and trends. Currently he is President of the Hoyt Institute for Real Estate, which promotes commercial real estate education and career path awareness. Dr. Steven Ott

Dr. Ott holds the appointment of John Crosland, Sr. Distinguished Professor of Real Estate and Development at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Ott's academic research focuses on topics such as Real Estate Investment Trusts, mortgage loan pricing, mortgage-backed securities, and applications of option pricing to real estate valuation and development decisions. His articles have appeared in journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Banking and Finance, Financial Management, Journal of Urban Economics, Real Estate Economics and the Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics.

He serves on the editorial boards of Real Estate Economics and the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management, and he has served as a consultant to many investment banking, real estate advisory and real estate development firms.

Dr. Ott received a Master's degree in Real Estate and Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988, and received his Ph.D. in Finance and Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992.


Dr. Anthony B. Sanders

Anthony B. Sanders is Professor of Finance in the School of Management at George Mason University where he is the Distinguished Professor of Real Estate Finance. He has previously taught at University of Chicago (Graduate School of Business), University of Texas at Austin (McCombs School of Business) and The Ohio State University (Fisher College of Business). In addition, he served as Director and Head of Housing and Commercial Mortgage Research at Deutsche Bank in New York City.

His research and teaching focuses on real estate finance and investment. He has published articles in Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Housing Economics, Appraisal Journal, CMBS World and other journals. Recently, he has given presentations to the European Central Bank in Frankfurt, Exane BNP Paribas in Paris and Geneva and the Bank of Japan on the subject of the housing and commercial real estate bubble and its consequences in the U.S. Professor Sanders has testified in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives on the U.S. real estate asset and debt markets.


Dr. Thomas G. Thibodeau

Dr. Thibodeau is the Chair of the Finance Division, the Academic Director of the University of Colorado Real Estate Center, and the Global Real Estate Capital Markets Professor in the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

In 1980, Tom received a Ph.D. in Economics and an M.S. degree in Statistics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. After completing his Ph.D., Tom was a Research Associate in the Housing Division of The Urban Institute in Washington, D.C. From 1983 through July 2004, he was on the Real Estate faculty at the Cox School of Business, Southern Methodist University. During the 1998-1999 academic year, he was a Visiting Professor of Real Estate at the Wharton School of Business, the University of Pennsylvania and a Visiting Scholar at the Philadelphia Fed. Between 2000 and 2005, Tom was co-editor of Real Estate Economics. Tom currently serves on the editorial boards of the Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of Real Estate Research, Journal of Housing Research and Journal of Housing Economics. He is a Past President of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association (AREUEA) and a Fellow of the Homer Hoyt Advanced Studies Institute.

In 2008, AREUEA awarded Tom the George Bloom Award for "his outstanding contributions to the field of real estate." Tom teaches Real Estate Finance and Investments and Real Estate Economics. His research focuses on explaining spatial and temporal variation in real estate prices.


Dr. Kerry D. Vandell

Kerry Vandell is the Deans Professor of Finance and Director of the Center for Real Estate at the Paul Merage School of Business, University of California-Irvine. He also holds courtesy appointments in the School of Law and the Department of Planning, Policy, and Development.

Previous to his current position, he was the Tiefenthaler Chairholder and Professor of Real Estate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and former Chairman/Director of UW's Real Estate Department and Center.

Dr. Vandell received his B.A. and M. Mech. E. degrees from Rice University, his M.C.P. from Harvard, and his Ph.D. from M.I.T., where he was the Charles Abrams Fellow at the Joint Center for Urban Studies. He has served as President of the American Real Estate and Urban Economics Association and Co-Editor of the Association's journal Real Estate Economics, and currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the Asian Real Estate Society. He serves on the Editorial Board of six academic journals as well as in a number of other positions in academic and professional organizations, including the Urban Land Institute, the Counselors of Real Estate, the ICSC, and the Real Estate Roundtable. He has researched and consulted extensively in the areas of real estate investment, urban/real estate/environmental economics, mortgage finance, housing economics and policy, and valuation theory and is principal in the consulting firm KDV Associates, which is actively involved in expert witness assignments for litigation matters in the above areas. He has served on the boards of directors of the Park Bank; Hilldale, Inc.(regional shopping center); ChrisKen Realty Trust (private multifamily REIT); and the Trustees of Funds and Endowments of the Episcopal Diocese of Milwaukee, WI., and currently sits on the boards of Shopoff Realty Trust (a non-traded land REIT) and the Irvine Community Housing Authority.

Dr. Vandell is responsible for development of some of the first models of default risk in the commercial mortgage market, and his recent research on real estate illiquidity provides institutional investors with important tools to ascertain proper allocation to real estate in mixed-asset portfolios. His work distinguishing real estate value from business enterprise value (BEV) in the appraisal of complex real property interests has had international influence on tax assessment practices. In the area of housing economics, he recently has completed papers examining the impact of subprime mortgage lending on the housing bubble, the efficiency of the structure of the financial and tax systems affecting manufactured housing communities, and the relative benefits vs. costs of the element of control relating to homeownership.


Dr. H. Shelton Weeks

Dr. H. Shelton Weeks is the Lucas Professor of Real Estate and director of the Lucas Institute for Real Estate Development & Finance at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Dr. Weeks received his BS, MA, and PhD in finance from The University of Alabama. He was a member of the inaugural faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University. He is the Managing Editor of the Journal of Housing Research and Co-Editor of the Journal of Economics and Finance Education and the academic review panel for The Appraisal Journal. He teaches in the areas of corporate finance, investments and real estate. He has published multiple articles on pedagogical issues, corporate governance, and real estate.

Dr. Weeks has extensive industry experience in valuation of real property with an emphasis on senior living projects. He is a member of the American Real Estate Society and the Southern Finance Association.


Dr. Elaine Worzala

Dr. Elaine Worzala is a professor and the director of the Center for Real Estate Development at Clemson University. She previously was a Professor of Real Estate in the Edward St. John Department of Real Estate at Johns Hopkins University and had been the MSRE Director and the Research Director at the Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate at the University of San Diego. She has also been a faculty member at Colorado State University and a visiting professor with the Real Estate Center at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Worzala has taught numerous different real estate courses including introductory real estate, real estate valuations, real estate feasibility, real estate finance and investments and a graduate level real estate investments case course. In addition, she was the interim Assistant Provost for USD in the 2004/05 academic years.

Elaine holds a Ph.D. in Real Estate and Urban Land Economics (1992) and an MS in Real Estate Appraisal and Investment Analysis (1984) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Worzala is the immediate past-president of the American Real Estate Society and is a past-president of the International Real Estate Society.

In 2000, Dr. Worzala was awarded the IRES Achievement Award that recognized her outstanding achievement in real estate research education and practice at an international level. She was also awarded the Bert Kruijt Service Award for outstanding service to IRES. In January 2005, she was initiated as a Fellow in the Weimer School that is part of a real estate think tank devoted to expanding the knowledge of real estate educators. In 2006, she was initiated in to Lambda Alpha International, became a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors as an exemplary member, and was invited to become the first woman Distinguished Fellow of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties.
