Full bleed size is 8 3/8" x 11 1/8". Keep live material 1/2" from trim. No bleeds on partial page ads.

Partial page ads must have border. Printed via heat-set offset Web on gloss stock at 133 lpi.

Art formats: InDesign CS or newer; QuarkXPress 4.0 or newer; Illustrator (with type converted to outlines, saved as EPS, and with all linked files); Photoshop (saved as TIFF or EPS); PDF/X-1A files. Any other applications (e.g. PowerPoint, Publisher and Word) are unacceptable.

Supply both printer and screen fonts, including fonts embedded in art files. Pseudo-type commands should not be used (i.e., if italics are desired, then the italic version of the font should be used, not the italic style.)

dpi and color usage: Scanned images should be saved as TIFF or EPS files. Line art should be scanned at 900 dpi and saved as a TIFF. Be sure not to scan line art as a halftone. (In Photoshop, use the "Bitmap" mode.)

Black-and-white photos should be scanned at 300 dpi as grayscale. Four-color images should be scanned at 300 dpi and converted to CMYK (not left as RGB), using UCR for separation type, with an ink limit of 280 percent. The high-res image should be imported directly into the document.

The shadow dot should not exceed 91 percent; any dot under 4 percent will drop to white. Scan your photograph or transparency as close to the actual reproduction size as possible — a 20 percent margin plus or minus is optimum.

Film-based ads processed on a copy dot scanner are not acceptable.

Retain your request to send all linked images along with a laser proof. Laser proof output should be at 100 percent.

Misc. Notes: Total area density should not exceed SWOP density of 280 percent. Please do not submit color files for black-and-white ads. High-resolution images from stock-photo disks should be converted to CMYK, saved as a TIFF and then placed directly into the document.

Spot colors and their tints in a four-color advertisement must be produced as a CMYK equivalent; if this is not done, we will convert the spot colors to CMYK and will not be responsible for the subsequent color shift. If your ad includes crop marks, the offset should be set to at least 9 points (.125").
