Development Fundamentals for Commercial Real Estate is designed for the entry to mid-level real estate professional involved in the commercial real estate development industry. The overall goal of this course is to fill in the holes, eliminate the mystery and bring the aspiring professional up to speed. This is a hard-hitting, fast-paced course that introduces the process of feasibility analysis focusing on financial feasibility analysis, sources of financing and lender decision criteria, site analysis and land control, due diligence and working with designers, engineers and planners.

Course Learning Objectives Include:
  • Learn how land use regulations influence feasibility and opportunity
  • Define the land residual technique and understand how it affects strategy
  • Understand the methods of valuation, how to value finished projects and define how leverage affects risks and returns
  • Define the sources of funding construction loans and permanent loans
  • Understand geotechnical (subsurface) and environmental areas for concern
  • Illustrate what goes into maximizing the values of a site
  • Learn to work with brokers to find sites and opportunities as well as how to work with lawyers on legal issues
  • Understand how to integrate design and engineering concerns
