Advanced Development Practices for Commercial Real Estate

NAIOP's Advanced Development Practices for Commercial Real Estate is designed for the intermediate- to senior- level experienced real estate professional or one who has completed the Development Fundamentals for Commercial Real Estate course. The overall goal of this course is to focus on the management of the development process. Topics include assembling the development team, construction management, marketing and public relations, trends in office and industrial markets, legal perspectives on leasing, sustainability and negotiation and risk management.

Advanced Development Practices for Commercial Real Estate's learning objectives include:
  • Identifying the development team players and defining their roles
  • Formulating a budget (hard and soft costs)
  • Understanding how construction management affects a project considering quality, speed and value
  • Defining BIM, RIVIT and similar systems and how they affect the quality of the development process, cost and bottom line and finished result
  • Formulating a marketing strategy and budget
  • Understanding how to work with media and generate public relations
  • Discovering how green design is affecting the development industry
  • Illustrating the successful components of good negotiation
  • Understanding how ethics and culture affect the negotiation process
  • Defining how negotiation is used in risk management
  • Understanding how to structure returns in order to satisfy all the players in a development proposal
