Tours
I.con is pleased to offer two concurrent tours of interest to attendees; please indicate your choice of tour upon registration. Each tour is limited to 45 people. Fee: $45.
Tour 1: APM Terminals/Pier 400:
In 2002, APM Terminals North America partnered with the Port of Los Angeles to produce Pier 400, the largest proprietary container terminal facility in the world with projected annual volume of more than 1 million container units.
This tour will provide an up-close view of a container terminal operation that manages more than 7,000 tons per day. Tour attendees will experience the process of loading and unloading a ship, view the largest on-dock rail operation in North America and see the radiation portal that U.S. Customs uses to audit shipments along with the many other aspects that are included in managing a 484-acre container terminal.
APM Terminals is a leading global container terminal operator with activities in more than 45 ports worldwide. It is the terminal operating division of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group which is headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands.
Tour 2: Value-Add Conversions
This Los Angeles (South Bay submarket) tour will be hosted by Jeff Morgan, senior vice president/west coast logistics practice leader, CB Richard Ellis. The tour will consist of a brief overview of the market and then visiting and discussing three "case studies" where landlords converted underutilized industrial/manufacturing buildings to high-velocity distribution centers. These case studies underscore the high demand and value creation for facilities with excess land. These facilities allow users to move goods quickly and efficiently and control costs related to dwell time at the port, off-site trailer storage and security by having the capacity to store and stage containers on site. |

The U.S. Economy in 2009
The U.S. economy is experiencing an unprecedented economic downturn that may extend well into 2010. In this panel discussion, prominent economists will explore how the consumer, government (taxpayer) bailouts and a new administration may affect your business over the next one to five years. Will exports grow? Will manufacturing return to the United States? Economists Alan Billingsley and Hessam Nadji will share their views on the massive changes in the economy over the past year and discuss the vital impact these changes may have on Main Street and the corresponding demand for industrial space into 2009.

Transportation and Infrastructure Panel
Delve into current transportation and infrastructure (water, rail and roads) issues that impact industrial real estate. Some of the questions examined in this session include: Will capacity constraints at Los Angeles/Long Beach redirect traffic to other ports? Are inland ports the answer to the coast port congestion? Will the railroads drive the future of development? What ports are the up-and-comers? Will $100+ a barrel oil change the trucking industry? This panel will take a multi-disciplined view of these two "drivers" of industrial real estate.
