What are your current responsibilities and background?
I am an architect working in commercial interior design. I have worked at VeenendaalCave since I was an intern. Currently, I am a design team director leading a group focusing on healthcare design. Since I was named an associate of the firm in 2008, I have been involved with management and have an active role in creating the policies and procedures for our employees. As a LEED Accredited Professional, I am involved with development and implementation of sustainable design.
What motivated you to get involved in commercial real estate?
As an architect, I enjoy the opportunity to multitask and be involved in diverse commercial interior projects at the same time.
Who is your mentor? And why?
The four VeenendaalCave principals: Ed Cave, Christine Veenendaal, Jeanette Meyers and Mark Schroeder. Throughout my ten years of tenure, I have had the opportunity to work closely and learn from them through different projects and assignments. Each one has different strengths that have helped me become a successful and well rounded professional.
What is your proudest career achievement?
Becoming an associate of the firm and developing the healthcare design team.
What are your hobbies?
Photography, technology and golf.
How has being a member of NAIOP helped your career?
Through NAIOP, I've had the opportunity to network with many industry professionals establishing new business and strengthening existing business relationships. I have also been able to meet and interact with most of our clients and other experienced real estate industry leaders. The Developing Leaders program has been a channel to give back to our community by participating in charitable events and also with national initiatives such as the diversity task force. The exposure received through my membership is invaluable.
